Penz13.com BMW by MGM China & Special Olympics Macau ready to tackle 50th anniversary of Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix
Macau, China. This weekend is the final one of the year for Penz13.com BMW by MGM China & Special Olympics Macau and it is a special one: It is the 50th anniversary of the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix in the Chinese gambler paradise. For this the German squad will field two BMW S 1000 RR's to be ridden by Gary Johnson and Danny Webb. Whereas Johnson is in a strong position as podium contender, Webb is new to the Chinese Track.
The team presentation took place in the MGM Grand Hotel Macau to unveil the new livery for the 2016 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix. The bikes got designed by Special Olympics Macau Athletes, that are having intellectual disabilities. The hands on the fairings reflect the original handprints of these Athletes while the MGM Lion features the official colours of MGM. That whole project was created in order to raise awareness of the importance to include people with intellectual disabilities in the modern society of Macau. The event was attended by representatives of the Macau Tourism Office, the Social Welfare Bureau and various other government departments.
The first session for the Motorbikes will be away at 07:30 local time on Thursday morning, with the race to be held on Saturday.
"We had a quite good preparation for Macau and have been testing in Frohburg and even yesterday down here in China just to get some laps in. I am looking forward to our first sessions tomorrow and I hope we will be at the sharp end of the back right away to be in a position where we can fight for the podium that coming Saturday. The bikes looking gorgeous so thanks again to MGM China and Special Olympics Macau for this cool project. I want to go out there and do a good job for everyone to be proud of.
"I don't know what to expect. I need to learn this place and track as I've never been here before. I need some experience round here and the I hope to come back next year even stronger and pick up, where we left of this year. So for me priority is to learn the track and get some more time on the big bikes."
"I am happy to have two strong riders here, which are Gary Johnson and Danny Webb. Even though Danny is a Newcomer to this track I think he will be able to do a good race. And Gary for sure should be in the mix for the podium if he now is able to turn the package that he has into a result. We arrived here and our pit box was perfectly set up so a special thanks goes out to SK Support Macau. We prepared ourselves 110 per cent for here, not only with the race in Frohburg, and are aiming for a strong end of our season."
