Wepol BMW Motorrad by penz13.com ready for Endurance-Show at the Bol d’Or with P11 on the grid
Le Castellet, France. The Wepol BMW Motorrad by penz13.com Team is ready for a one-off comeback at the 2017/2018 FIM Endurance World Championship’s season opening race of the 24 hours of Le Castellet and for the “Bol d’Or” in Southern France.
Fixing together a team short hand to compete in the legendary race, team manager Rico Penzkofer is fielding the German star Markus Reiterberger, as well as his two experienced road racers Alessandro “Alex” Polita and Danny Webb. Polita won the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship, Webb raced in Grand Prix – so there is plenty of experience on the squad’s S 1000 RR machinery this weekend.
In Qualifying, the team placed 11th on the grid for tomorrow’s 24 hours race, which is about to start at 15:00 local time.
The race can be followed live on Eurosport 2 and in Eurosport player, as well as on the official www.fimewc.com website.
„Unfortunately I missed Tuesday’s free practice sessions so I could only jump on the bike for the first time yesterday and I felt well on the bike from the first moment on. The setup was alright and I surely could have done a 1:57 but got held up in traffic. Today I had a qualifying tire mounted but unfortunately it started to rain a bit. The setting for the race is pretty alright, I think, so that we can have good lap times and we hope for no technical problems so we can aim for a good result.”
„Allora. In general I am really happy today, the bike is much better than yesterday. My team mates are very young and see the lap times, but I prefer to work for the race because one day is very long, very very long. My lap time is not real, but 2:00 and 2:01 for the race is the pace for a good race.”
„I don’t think the result from today shows our true potential for the race, because I feel I have more in me with a new qualifying tire, I could be in the low 2 minutes. Unfortunately then the rain come. For the race I want to run high 2:00 or low 2:01s. Looking at the other rider’s paces, I believe we can have a top 6 result.”
“This team is brilliant, everybody is friendly and the bikes are very good. We had no problems, the suspension is perfect, special thanks to Andrej. Alex, Danny and Reiti work very good – because if I have a problem with something on the track, they help me and tell me to get better lines. This is completely different than road racing and I use this here as training and I just wanted to gain some more experience. I have not many kilometers on this circuit so I think my time is not so bad for the first time here. I am happy I am ok and the bike is ok and I look forward to my last race in Frohburg next week.”
„Its been difficult to get any riders for this race as there is so much going on besides the EWC this weekend. We initially had planed to ride with Danny de Boer but unfortunately he is not fit enough due to illness, so we had to find a third rider. We decided to take Danny Webb, who has proved us to be the right decision already. Today we were a bit unlucky with the rain, as we wanted to attack, but Reiti and Webb had a bit of rain and were not able to improve. But this qualifying result does not mirror our performance for the race at all – we are confident.”
