BMW Motorrad France Team Penz13.com satisfied despite rain hits Suzuka test
Suzuka, Japan. BMW Motorrad France Team Penz13.com riders Markus Reiterberger (GER), Bastien Mackels (BEL) and Tommy Bridewell (GBR) have successfully completed the official two day test session for the legendary 8 hours of Suzuka, taking place on 26th of July later this month. Despite rain hitting both days and dry track time limited to just one session, the trio got a good preparation done in order to be competitive at the second round of the 2015 FIM Endurance World Championship.
Reiterberger and Mackels had to learn the difficult Suzuka race track during those sessions, stating they came along well and setting competitive lap times. Bridewell already knew the track, showing a great pace both in dry and wet conditions.
Just one session on Wedensday had been dry so Bridewell, Mackels and Reiterberger hurried to get some laps under their belts with the British racer setting the best time of the team. Mackels missed that effort only shortly whereas Reiterberger got only very few laps in dry conditions after a minor crash that left him with a little headache.
All three showed themselves satisfied with the test – as satisfied as they could be concerning the weather.
“The Suzuka Circuit is a very interesting one and it was a shame we found wet conditions for most of the time. I am sorry that I couldn’t get more laps in during dry conditions as I crashed unfortunately. I have a little headache now but I think that will be gone by tomorrow. Thank god the BMW S 1000 RR didn’t get any big damage, but still I feel sorry for the guys. Ah, and Happy 40th Birthday, Rico!”
“Suzuka is amazing! We had to learn that track here and only got some 10 laps in dry conditions in, which was a bit frustrating to travel to the other end of the world and then getting rain. But you never know what it’s good for. We still have some work to do on the bike and to learn the hidden secrets of that track, but the first laps already have been good. Finally: Happy Birthday, Rico!”
“It was a good test even though the weather was not playing into our hands. In that sight it was kind of hard to evaluate and develop the needs and settings of us riders and the BMW S 1000 RR for the race later in July. But for me it was just nice to ride around here again and my lap times were strong as well. Even though I am new to the team, I want to go with my mates and say: Happy 40th, Rico!”
“Of course it’s kind of frustrating to travel so far and then only have one dry session in two days but considering that difficult conditions and just the minor spill of Reiti, which left our BMW S 1000 RR almost undamaged, we can be satisfied. The lap times posted by Bastien and Tommy in the short dry period were promising and I am sure Markus can reach them as well, just due to his crash there was not much he could further do today. The guys now know where it’s going round here and we can look forward to the race.”
