Le Castellet, France. Penz13.com BMW Motorrad Team has gained the provisional 8th spot on the grid of the 80th edition of the 24 hours “Bol d’Or” at the Circuit Paul Ricard Le Castellet. Riders Kenny Foray (FRA), Lukas Pesek (CZE) and Matthieu Lussiana (FRA) showed a confident pace on their BMW S 1000 RR to get to an average time of 2:00,703 minutes, just 1.856 seconds behind the pace makers of GMT94.

Foray showed an incredibly fast pace during his stint, posting the fourth fastest overall time of the day in 1:58.732 minutes. Pesek and Lussiana were both in the mid-2:01.

Pesek however suffered a blowback after crashing in his stint. The Czech rider collided with Ivan Silva on the exit of an corner. The session was red flagged and Pesek brought the bike back to the pits to go out for several more laps shortly after. After his stint Pesek went to hospital for an x-ray on his foot. Further updates on his condition will be released as soon as they appear.

Penz13.com BMW Motorrad Team has a well-known face on board for the Bol: The Spaniard Pedro Vallcaneras from Mallorca, who earned the Superstock World Title with Penz back in 2012, is on site to jump in if needed.

Kenny Foray

Rider

"Today of course was alright considering I was able to post the fourth fastest time of the day. It was a bit of a mess with all the red flags for all three qualifying groups so it was a bit difficult to keep a rhythm going. But it’s also been only the qualifying and the most important thing is to be prepared for the race which will be very long. We are working towards a good strategy and I think we are on a good way. Let’s now see and hope Lukas is okay and then we go into tomorrow’s Qualifying and tonight’s Night Practice session confidently.

Lukas Pesek

Rider

"I had passed Ivan Silva on the inside line but on the exit of the corner he was on my ride side and I couldn’t see him, so when I pulled to the outside we touched and both crashed. It was an incident, which can happen and I am very sorry. First I thought I could not ride again but when I saw the bike was in a good condition I brought it back to the pits and went out again. After I recognized very bad pain in my heel so I went to the Medical Center but they don’t have an X-ray machine here, so we now go to the hospital to have everything checked."

Matthieu Lussiana

Rider

"First I was with all the other riders in the middle of the pack and I couldn’t pass all of them, so I went back to the pits. Then I did one lap alone with a good time, then the red flag came out. At the re-start I stayed with the fastest guys but lost contact after an almost crash with another rider. My feeling in general was not the best today so it was better to enter the pits and work for tomorrow. Tonight I try to have a lot more smooth riding style in the Night Practice to adapt it to the team’s strategy for the race, especially with the acceleration and for saving fuel. I hope I can push a bit more in tomorrow’s qualifying, as I am not happy with my time today."

Rico Penzkofer

Team Principal

"We look on today a bit with mixed emotions. The pace of our four riders was okay, but all the red flags disturbed the work flow quite a bit. But that’s the same for everybody. The crash of Lukas is really a shame, the bike wasn’t damaged badly but we are now all waiting for info after the X-rays. We hope he is okay to ride tomorrow, maybe even tonight. Kenny proved with the fourth fastest time of the day that our BMW S 1000 RR is ready to rock the Bol d’Or!
