Le Castellet, France. The Wepol BMW Motorrad by penz13.com Team is ready for a one-off comeback at the 2017/2018 FIM Endurance World Championship’s season opening race of the 24 hours of Le Castellet and for the “Bol d’Or” in Southern France.
Fixing together a team short hand to compete in the legendary race, team manager Rico Penzkofer is fielding the German star Markus Reiterberger, as well as his two experienced road racers Alessandro “Alex” Polita and Danny Webb. Polita won the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship, Webb raced in Grand Prix – so there is plenty of experience on the squad’s S 1000 RR machinery this weekend.
In Qualifying, the team placed 11th on the grid for tomorrow’s 24 hours race, which is about to start at 15:00 local time. The race can be followed live on Eurosport 2 and in Eurosport player, as well as on the official www.fimewc.com website.
Markus Reiterberger - Rider:
"Unfortunately I missed Tuesday’s free practice sessions so I could only jump on the bike for the first time yesterday and I felt well on the bike from the first moment on. The setup was alright and I surely could have done a 1:57 but got held up in traffic. Today I had a qualifying tire mounted but unfortunately it started to rain a bit. The setting for the race is pretty alright, I think, so that we can have good lap times and we hope for no technical problems so we can aim for a good result."
Alex Polita - Rider:
"Allora. In general I am really happy today, the bike is much better than yesterday. My team mates are very young and see the lap times, but I prefer to work for the race because one day is very long, very very long. My lap time is not real, but 2:00 and 2:01 for the race is the pace for a good race."
Danny Webb - Rider:
"I don’t think the result from today shows our true potential for the race, because I feel I have more in me with a new qualifying tire, I could be in the low 2 minutes. Unfortunately then the rain come. For the race I want to run high 2:00 or low 2:01s. Looking at the other rider’s paces, I believe we can have a top 6 result."
Rico Penzkofer - Team Principal:
First of all we want to send our best wishes and a speedy recovery to Danny to Nobles hospital. He had a crash today and of course we never ever want to see anyone crash, not here at the Isle of Man TT. In the end he was very lucky and we are sure to see him back on the bike very soon. Dan Kneen is doing a mega job and so does our crew. He simply felt good on the bike and proved that with his two fastest ever laps around here. Also Alex is doing a more than solid job once more and the whole team wishes him a happy birthday today!"
